London Rollergirls - Anarchy: Euro Crash

It feels like an age since I last shot roller derby so was thrilled to get back to it, especially as this was going to be two great bouts. There were two bouts on Saturday which saw London's all star teams (London Brawling and Brawl Saints) taking on Leeds Roller Dolls and an invitational European all stars team.
I mentioned many many times how I'm not overly happy with the quality of my shots from previous roller derby bouts and how challenging it can be with the low light conditions at Earls Court. I started out using the 70-200mm lens and I was running into the same problems but I decided to switch and use my 85mm f1.8 and see how that would work. I have to say I'm so glad I swapped and wish I had started the bout with this lens. It just meant I didn't have to push the iso and slow shutter speeds as much. I'm a lot happier with these shots than any of my other LRG shots, they aren't perfect but when you look at the photos you can definitely see a noticeable change in them.
London Rollergirls celebrated their six birthday around the time of this bout and it's amazing to see how far they've come. I'm looking forward to seeing where they end up. Due to prior commitments I'm probably going to miss the next couple of bouts which is a shame but by the time the next one comes round I can shoot I will definitely be desperate to get back to it.
The rest of the photos from both bouts can be seen here.
